As the Senior Bootmaker and company owner Mike Sheehan puts it; “In the early days of Altberg, we had some days when we had no money, no orders, and the machines kept breaking down. I didn’t know if we could last another week… but I was taught, by a good man who had survived the dark days of the 1930s, and he would say “When times are bad, just concentrate on making good boots… there’ll always be someone who wants a pair of good boots” and that’s what we did, and that’s what we still do.”

LIGHT MY FIRE
Founded in Sweden in 1995 by Michael Odqvist, Light My Fire originally imported an amazing resinous kindling from Guatemala, teamed with a magnesium fire-starter developed and used by the Swedish Army. Not only was the Swedish FireSteel a great product in itself, it also was an unbeatable combination with the TinderSticks.
Michael also realised there was a lot more potential in the outdoor field. Most equipment was plain and drab brown, black and green. With the help of the legendary brand specialist Claes Andréasson (Absolut Vodka) and the successful copywriter Steve Strid, Light My Fire became a brand, making bright, beautifully-designed plastic products. At the same time, Calill Odqvist, Michael's daughter, who had worked for the company since the early days, became their CEO. From then on, premium-quality outdoor products, designed with a smile and a whole palette of colour, was their business.
